Seamless Handover with Wireless LAN, Mobile IP, MISP and PDMA

چکیده
We designed and implemented seamless handover on wireless LAN with MISP (Mobile Internet Services Protocol), PDMA (Packet Division Multiple Access) and mobile IP. MISP is a protocol designed for mutual authentication, IP address assignments, session key sharing and various negotiations between mobile nodes and access points with a single exchange of packets after receiving beacons. By MISP, a mobile node can quickly establish link with access points. PDMA is a new paradigm for duplexing/multiplexing accesses. It uses CSMA/CA not only within cells but also between cells to dynamically allocate communication bandwidth between cells and enables mobile nodes to access simultaneously to all the available access points. PDMA naturally enables mobile nodes to support seamless make-before-break style handover and to find beacons from new access points quickly. The protocols are implemented with IEEE802.11a turbo mode (108Mbps) and evaluated by a laboratory trial and a field trials with a car moving at 30km/h.

A Seamless Vertical Handover Approach
Wireless network devices are equipped with multiple access technologies like UMTS and Wireless LAN. The handover between the technologies has been widely studied in literature. Several of these research papers build their handover mechanisms on top of existing protocols like Mobile IP. The protocols however, operate on the network layer and only react on link layer changes. Consequently, a seam...
متن کاملA study of mobility in WLAN
This paper studies mobility in wireless LAN (WLAN, IEEE802.11). Mobility is an instinct nature of WLAN as being wireless. But this mobility is limited by radio propagation and the IEEE802.11 specifications. For seamless mobility in a larger area, e.g., between two extended service sets (ESSs), some sorts of mobility management mechanisms are needed. Mobile IP has been widely considered as a sol...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of IP over Bluetooth for IP Mobility Support in a Heterogeneous Environment
Mobility support at the IP layer is proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force Mobile IP Working Group to define media-independent procedures, whereby a mobile device can maintain existing transport and application-layer connections despite changing its point-of-attachment. Roaming between heterogeneous wireless networks, with different link layers, is therefore possible with this IP mobil...
متن کاملFast Handover Based on Mobile IPv6 for Wireless LAN
Mobile networking technology is progressing to support the requirements of today’s new class of Internet users who roam about with sophisticated mobile computers and digital wireless data communication devices. Host mobility requires change in the routing protocol so that packets for a moving host can be delivered to their correct destination. Mobile IP (Internet Protocol) allows a mobile node ...
متن کاملSignaling cost and performance of SIGMA: A seamless handover scheme for data networks
Mobile IP has been developed to handle mobility of Internet hosts at the network layer. Mobile IP, however, suffers from a number of drawbacks such as requirement of infrastructure change, high handover latency, high packet loss rate, and conflict with network security solutions. In this paper, we describe and evaluate the performance of SIGMA, a Seamless IP diversity based Generalized Mobility...
